This project was carried out over the summer holidays 2000. It was based on the theme of a river winding its way through the playground. Blue play-surface was used to mark out the river, with an orange towpath alongside. This provided the inspiration for imaginative play equipment such as boats, bridges, stepping stones, and a 'Willow Island' made out of used tyres.

Gardens by Design was approached by the school to draw up the final plans, based on ideas gathered by the PTA in consultation with pupils and staff, and work out the costings for the project. Together with the PTA a brochure was prepared and then sent to prospective funding organisations. This enabled the PTA to raise £40,000 towards the project over a period of just three months.

The new playground is proving a great success with staff and chidren alike. Supervisors have noticed a significant improvement in behaviour at break times. The sort of accidents and collisions that were common before have been reduced considerably as the children are engaging in more creative and imaginative games.
