Tulse Hill Estate - Community Garden

This project formed part of the BBC programme 'Charlie's Garden Army' with Charlie Dimmock and was carried out over a period of three months. Working together with residents of the estate and volunteers from BTCV, a wasteland site on the edge of Lambeth Council's Tulse Hill Estate was transformed into a community garden with planting beds, pergolas and a children's play area. Gwyn Jones, in consultation with the residents, designed the play area, based on a musical theme. Residents also assisted the Gardens by Design Team in the construction of the play equipment, and the scheme was allowed to evolve as they contributed their own ideas and skills. The play area is defined by a dry 'river bed' and accessed via railway sleeper bridges and secret paths in stepping stones. The garden is now cared for by local residents with support from BTCV
and continues to thrive. |
